For years, homeowners only had two options for fences: metal or wood. Metal fences, such as chain link, were economical but often very industrial-looking and decorative iron fences could cost a small fortune. Wood fences were much more attractive and offered more privacy but could be expensive to maintain. Today, there is a better choice: composite fencing.
Composite fences are usually made from recycled plastics and wood pieces consisting of recycled chips or sawdust. This makes the fences very dense and able to stand up to the elements. Composite fences typically come in a variety of colors and are relatively easy to install.
One of the major advantages is that composite fences are very low maintenance. They never require staining or painting, and most dirt and debris can simply be rinsed off with a water hose. Mold or mildew is also easily removed with a regular household cleaner.
Composite fences are also extremely durable. They aren’t prone to rusting like metal fences and will not rot or warp like wood. Composite fences are also insect and weather resistant. Because they are so durable, most of these fences come with a 20+ year warranty.
While composite fences do cost somewhat more than traditional wood fences, reduced maintenance during the life of the fence makes the investment well worth it for many. Unfortunately, changing the color by staining or painting is not an option, but this is something that is a non-issue for most.
