Why Wood Defender?

Stain will not stick to a hard surface like a metal bracket. It washes off.

It will will not affect masonry or concrete if it’s wet (Techs need to use a hose to make everything wet before applying). It will roll off (oil-based stain).

Written warranty for three years but must stain to penetrate. Wood Defender will replace the stain if it’s fading.

Does Wood Defender Make Solid Colors in Stain?

The semi-transparent is as close as one can get to a solid – very opaque – can see lots of color but also see wood grain. Again, Wood Defender is an oil based formula.

Wood Defender likes the oil because it’s better protection for the wood. When it comes time to re-apply, it’s easy – just add another coat.

With solid paint – it will peel crack and bubble. It has to be pressure washed which damages the integrity of the wood.

No stripping is required which is not good for the wood.

When selecting a color, it’s best if a customer chooses from physical hand-outs as these colors will be more accurate than ones seen on computer and phone screens. However, you can get a feel for your color options online to obtain a sense of what you want.

It is HIGHLY recommended that you use the semi transparent stain on pressure treated surfaces – pressure treated pine (PTP). Cedar is not pressure treated. So, if you are looking for a natural transparent look for your cedar fence that is just fine. Otherwise, PTP fences need semi-transparent stain and it does have some color.
