Milton is one of five cities in Metro Atlanta that require a permit to install a fence. Milton's City Council voted in 2022 to amend the city's fencing requirements. These amendments streamline regulations and help to create a uniquely "Milton-esque" look across the city.

Local codes require four board equestrian style fences along the Milton Trail, in line with Milton's brand. Further, these fences may or may not have galvanized welded wire mesh attached to the fence. It can be located on the inside or outside and can be left unpainted or painted the same color as the fence.

They also clarified new rules regarding the positioning of intercoms for driveway gates, as well as prohibited chain link fencing around storm water facilities.
