Fulton County's mix of dense residential neighborhoods, HOAs, and commercial corridors makes fencing here more nuanced than a standard install. Whether your property is located in Old Fourth Ward, Inman Park, or Buckhead Village, a fence installation provides several advantages.

We offer both residential and commercial fencing that will help protect your investment.
Commercial Fencing in Fulton County
A Fulton County, Georgia commercial fence offers several benefits, including:
Security & Protection
Many businesses have expensive inventory and equipment that needs to be protected. Security fencing will deter intruders, vandals, and thieves from accessing the property.
Safety & Liability
Keep customers away from secure areas, where trucks and delivery traffic regularly operate. Block public access to dangerous mechanical areas or equipment. For institutional properties, pool and perimeter enclosures are used to establish boundaries and keep swimmers safe.
Operation & Aesthetic
Shield unsightly areas from public view, such as dumpsters or sensitive work areas. Fencing helps create a clean exterior look for customers.
First Fence of Georgia provides the materials for DIYers working on large jobs. We also provide project management guidance for multi-site or phased commercial work.
Do You Need a Fence Permit in Fulton County?
In unincorporated Fulton County, a permit or special approval isn't always required for a fence installation. There are certain reasons a Fulton County fence permit or approval is required:
- The fence isn't within the standard height limit of up to 8 feet.
- If the fence acts as a safety barrier for a swimming pool, it must adhere to specific life-safety codes that require specific zoning or review.
- A fence placed too close to a public right-of-way, which is less than the 3-foot setback minimum. Also, a Fulton County fence permit might be needed if the fence installation violates the corner-lot visibility triangle.
Cities like Atlanta, Sandy Springs, Roswell, and Alpharetta have their own permitting departments. Permit fees and requirements vary based on the jurisdiction. Take a look at the current City of Atlanta Zoning and Permitting Service Page for more information on Fulton County fence permits. If you plan to work on a fencing project soon, you should confirm the permit requirements with the applicable local building department.

Understanding Fulton County's Fence Code and Ordinance Requirements
Fulton County fence codes vary depending on the location, but there are general rules that should be followed.
Setback Distances: Residential fences don't require a setback. On public streets, fences built parallel to the street or right of way must have a setback of 3 feet from the boundary line.
Height Limits By Zoning District: Residential yards must not exceed 4 feet in height, and feature an open design that's 50% or more transparent. Commercial and industrial properties can range from 8 to 10 feet in height.
Material & Appearance Restrictions: Most residential fence ordinances require a distinct finish and prohibit barbed or razor wire. Commercial properties are allowed barbed wire only in industrial or agricultural zones.
Corner-Lot Visibility Rules: Corner properties are only allowed a fence of 2.5 feet in height.
Pool Barrier Code: Fulton County residential pool fences must be 4 feet above the finished enclosure. Commercial pool fences can be 4 to 5 feet in height, with gate latches at least 54 inches in height.
Fulton County includes both unincorporated areas and multiple incorporated cities, each of which may layer additional HOA or municipal code on top of county ordinance. Review the official Fulton County code of laws to learn more about Fulton County fence ordinances to prepare for your fence installation.
